Michael "Lost for Words" Phelps

I don't mean to nitpick the greatest Olympian ever, but instead of saying "I'm lost for words" in every other response he gives when asked to share his thoughts after every gold, can't he just give even the smallest of shout outs to God? Is he not Christian? No one is, for that matter. So disappointing. We really are heading into a post-Christian era. What a missed opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I could not be happier for Phelps and his golds for the US, but geez louise, deep in communist country, where freedom of speech and religion is suppressed, when the world is watching and listening to his every word....Nada, nothing. Just, "I'm lost for words, it's amazing...blah blah blah". Yawn.

I know, I'm a tough crowd. But I'm just disappointed. We still have millionaire professional athletes in pro leagues who give thanks to God on a regular basis in interviews here in the United States. why can't our young athletes do the same when it matters the most?

So frustrating.

Epic Fail

My one Olympic wish

So with my principles firmly compromised of my own accord by becoming a rabid addict of watching the Olympics in Communist China, I do declare one simple wish.

My wish is that Michael Phelps, after winning gold after gold, at least once, immediately before or after the National Anthem, to reach in his pocket, retrieve a ginormous silver or gold Crucifix, point to it, kiss it, then display it to the camera.

Actually, this wish applies to any medal winner from any country, but Phelps doing it would be the Lottery win.

I told myself I would not watch any of the Olympics on principal, but I'm finding that impossible. I will not watch as a uninformed Joe Sixpack who couldn't possibly have the slightest inkling that China is a massive human rights violator, with religious and political dissidents wasting away in prisons and many times murdered for their beliefs, a crushing one child policy where if a woman attempts to have a second child, she could either submit to a forced abortion, or in some cases have her home burned to the ground.

So instead, I will watch as an informed citizen, hoping to catch protesters making their voices heard, and of course, I do hope to see the USA do exceedingly well.

But during the opening ceremony however, which in general I thought was well overdone, there was a moment where children from different provinces began carrying out the Chinese flag. They were all adorable in their tribal garb, but then they pass the flag on to Chinese soldiers who began marching the flag in true totalitarian fashion, knees locked, to the flagpole. Really tasteful China. Way to mix totalitarian communism with the Olympics. The display made me want to vomit.

Boycott the Olympics in China

Please do your part and boycott in any way you can the Olympics in Beijing. The communist government needs to be shamed and embarrassed into treating their people better, much better.

Use this opportunity to inform friends and family who are not up on China's vast human rights violations. In no way, not one, does China deserve to host the Olympics. The honor and legitimacy given to a country that hosts the Olympics is being grossly misapplied here. Do what you can.

Help bring freedom of speech and religion back to China.
